The Stouffville Yankees Minor Midget AA team captured the Mississauga Majors Tournament on the June 9-11th weekend. The tournament began Friday evening with the Yankees defeating the host Majors by a score of 6-0, with Cole Murchison pitching the whole game to record the win, supported by Wes Reid who had a big night batting at the plate for the Yankees.  Game two on Saturday morning saw the Yankees come up against Erindale and although the Yankees fell behind quickly, they came back to score a mercy shortened game by a score of 14-4, with Blake Randorf picking up the win. The game was highlighted by back to back home runs by Michael Palandra scoring an inside the park homer followed by Evan Farrell who went deep over the fence at the 315 mark. Peter Karanopoulos hit a monster three run triple to accompany his 5 RBI performance with the winning runs and break the game wide open.

Game three saw the Yankees facing the powerful Barrie Red Sox with the Yankees coming out on top by a score of 12-9. Matt Tassopoulos picked up the win for the Yankees with Dylan McDonald coming into earn the save. Trevor Randorf was 4 for 4 getting on base to lead the Yankees to victory.

With the Yankees going 3-0 in the round robin they gained a bye to the semi-finals on Sunday morning and came up against Barrie once again.

The game was played very hard by both teams that saw the Yankees come out on top by a 6-5 score with pitcher Spencer Krabi getting the win and Christo Rodis coming in to relieve in the final inning to earn the save.

The finals saw the Yankees have to play a very strong team from Vaughn with both teams having to play under what seemed like the first really hot day of the summer. The Yankees were down early with Vaughn going ahead by a score of 2-0 throughout most of the game. With two out and two men on base Krabi and Reid hit back to back doubles to send them into the lead by a score of 4-2.

The final pitch of the game was hit well by Vaughn, but Yankees leftfielder Jordan Parsalidis tracked it down and caught the ball to seal the deal and become the tournament champions. Catcher Blake Randorf playing both games on Sunday gets the ironman award for having to wear all that gear on such a hot day and doing such a terrific job  behind the plate for the Yankees.

The Yankees Minor Midget  team is on an impressive 17-0 record to start the season with a 6-0 record in the regular season and 11-0 record in the two tournaments that they have won.

The Yankees are looking forward to their tournament in Pittsburgh where they will also attend a Pirates game at PNC field.
