The Minor Peewee A team took home the Silver medal from the Barrie Minor Baseball Tournament in Barrie on Father’s Day weekend of June 15 - 17. Of the seven teams that entered, only the top four teams would go on to play in the semi-finals on Sunday.

The first opponent Friday night, was the A team from Mississauga North. A terrific pitching performance by Josh McGovern, who threw 79 pitches in a complete game, along with timely hitting, including a home run by Nathan Onlock, propelled Stouffville to a 15-6 victory.

Saturday's schedule had the Yankees planning for three games. The first game on Saturday morning was against Kanata. The pitching was up for the game, but the defence was not as hot, as Kanata took the game 12-8.  The second game was against the host Barrie.  It was a double header for Stouffville and Barrie's first game of the morning.  The heat had an impact as Barrie mercied Stouffville 15-2.  The final game of Saturday was not for a few hours later but was between 1-2 Bradford and 1-2 Stouffville.  Winner would take the final spot in the semis on Sunday morning.  Another terrific pitching outing from a combination of Justin Brauer and Alex Uher saw Stouffville triumph 10-4 over Bradford.

At 2-2 from the round robin, Stouffville was the #4 seed and set to match up with #1 seed undefeated Barrie on Sunday morning in the semi-finals. This game started differently from the Saturday game, as Stouffville scored 4 runs in the first and in a hard back and forth game won 7-6.  The other semi-final game between Kanata and Whitby saw Whitby also win 7-6.

The final was set for Stouffville and Whitby to square off. The game started very even, with Stouffville loading the bases but could only muster a pair of runs. The bats were alive, but Whitby's gloves were also.  The difference again was Whitby's defence out battling Stouffville's and the Whitby T2 team took the finals 9-2.  Stouffville unfortunately left the bases loaded or runners at second and third in four different innings.

A great performance over the full weekend by the Stouffville Yankees Minor Peewee team. Every player in the line up was swinging a hot bat. Terrific defence helped out great pitching for a great time at a hot Barrie tournament.
